Administration

Meet the Principal!

Topher Dow, Principal and Catherine Couch, Assistant Principal

My name is Christopher “Topher” Dow, and I am privileged to serve this wonderful community of learners, families, and educators. My journey in education began almost 20 years ago with a desire to help students discover their full potential, overcome challenges, and develop a love for learning. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from UNC-Wilmington, a Master of Science in Education from Arkansas State, and a graduate certificate in School Administration from Appalachian State University. I am also currently working on my doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University.

Throughout my career, I have served as an elementary school teacher, middle school math teacher, assistant principal, and now principal. These experiences have given me a better understanding of what makes a school thrive. I believe strongly in building positive relationships with students, staff, and families because I know that collaboration is the key to helping every child succeed. At Jefferson Elementary, we focus on academic excellence, emotional well-being, and creating a nurturing environment that celebrates diversity, community involvement, and high expectations.

We encourage all families to be involved in their child's education, whether through volunteering, attending school events, or simply staying informed about what’s happening in the classroom. Your involvement helps create a thriving learning community and sets a positive example for our students. Please know that my door is always open. I am here to listen to your ideas, address your concerns, and celebrate your child’s achievements. Our collaboration will ensure Jefferson Elementary remains the best educational destination for all families and students. Thank you for your continued support!

Warmly,

TOPHER DOW, PRINCIPAL

Assistant Principal- Catherine Couch

My name is Catherine Couch and I am thrilled to be serving as Assistant Principal at Jefferson Elementary School! Jefferson is a very special place to me, as I started out as a student here in elementary school! I am a graduate of Cleveland County Schools and then Appalachian State University, where I majored in Birth-Kindergarten Education. I returned to Cleveland County and began my career in education 15 years ago as a PreK and Kindergarten Teacher, before becoming a School Counselor. I served as the School Counselor at Jefferson for 10 years, before going into administration. This will be my second year as an Assistant Principal, and it is an honor to be able to support the students, teachers, and families in this role. My number one goal in this position is to ensure that every student is successful here at Jefferson. Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me if there is anything I can do to support you and your student.

I am also a proud Jefferson parent, and have a kindergarten and 3rd grade student who attends Jefferson. As a fellow parent, I am so grateful to all the teachers and staff for the amazing educational experience and positive learning environment that is provided each day! It truly is the best place to "bee," and I look forward to a wonderful year!
